The acclaimed Academy of St Martin in the Fields returns to Spain with an evening dedicated to Beethoven, Schubert and Schoenberg as part of Ibermúsica's Barbieri Series 2023/2024. On this occasion, they will do so under the direction of violinist Julia Fischer, who will also act as soloist.
The programme wil include Beethoven's Romances for Violin and Orchestra num.1 and num. 2, published in 1803 and 1805. Likewise, the group will perform Schubert's 5th Symphony, one of his most famous works which reflects the influences of Mozart and Haydn. The concert will come to a close with Schoenberg's Transfigured Night, considered to be his earliest important work, inspired by Richard Dehmel's poem Verklärte Nacht, which tells the heartbreak story of a man and a woman who confesses she is expecting another man's child as they walk under the moonlight through a dark forest.
