Within the series “Cancer from another angle” organised by CIC bioGUNE, the Spanish Association Against Cancer and the British Council have invited Prof. Bart Vanhaesebroeck from the University College London Cancer Institute to give a lecture on “A journey through cancer research: from a child’s dream to a drug against cancer”
Cancer is originated by “mistakes” accumulated in our body cells. Researchers have discovered that every cancer has an alteration signature, a unique identity card for each cancer and which can help develop an effective treatment. Our cell proteins make cells work but suffer the consequences of these “mistakes”. Prof. Vanhaesebroeck has focused his career in understanding how these proteins work. His research has led to developing drugs which are used today for the treatment of different kind of cancers.
