December 3rd is International Day of Persons with Disabilities, declared by the United Nations in 1992. As part of its programme, the Education Department at the Reina Sofía Museum in collaboration with curators Carlos Almela (hablarenarte) and Carlota Mir, as well as British collective Project Art Works, is organising the fifth edition of the Conference on Functional Diversity that began in 2019. Thanks to the support of the British Council and Madrid’s City Hall, the conference will take place at the museum’s headquarters in Madrid on December 1st – 3rd.
This edition, titled (Dis)encuentros vulnerables (Vulnerable (Dis)encounters), is a public programme which aims to facilitate a space where neurodivergent realities and care for people with functional diversity can meet. The three-day event will include different workshops in which participants will be able to talk and create as a community, sharing the lived experiences of people with neuro and body diveregencies, with the goal of transforming the context and not the people.
The programme will include a series of talks, workshops, screenings and a party for activists, artists, researchers, teachers, associations, institutions and the general public interested in contributing to these (dis)encounters through criticism, co-creation and collective enjoyment.
