The “Otoño a Primavera” festival in Madrid opens its 33rd edition with “John”, the latest production from the acclaimed British company DV8.
After visiting Madrid with the stunning production “Can We Talk About This?”, with the support of the British Council the British company DV8 Physical Theatre returns to the “Otoño a Primavera” festival to open it with “John”, a breath-taking creation of physical theatre.
The artistic director of DV8 Lloyd Newson, one of the most influential artists in the field of performing arts in recent years, interviewed more than fifty men about their thoughts on sex and love for this work. One of them was John, whose personal story of delinquency, drug addiction and fight for survival is portrayed on stage in an intense, caustic and completely moving theatrical experience.
In the same way as in DV8’s last two productions – “To Be Straight With You” (Grand Prix de Danse, 2009 – Paris) and “Can We Talk About This?” (Helpmann Award for Best Dance, 2012 – Sydney; Production of the Year, Tanz Magazine, 2012 – Germany) in “John” dance and theatre, text and movement simultaneously provoke reflection and provide the spectactor with an unexpected and unique theatrical experience.
