Can theatre remove the barriers that normally separate us? With the support of the British Council through its International Collabotation Programme this co-production between the Teatro de La Abadía in Madrid and Tobacco Factory Theatres in Bristol explores freedom of movement (or its absence) between people who cannot travel due to borders, laws and other barriers. In this international collaboration project artists from different parts of the world share the stage from a unique and innovative perspective.
In "El Muro / The Wall" two performers from different continents who cannot meet in person due to mobility or travel limitations, meet live and on screen for the first time. Simultaneously, two other performers stand on stage. As the conversation unfolds in this unscripted encounter, the actors at the theatre begin to interpret what turns into an exploration on intimacy and connection beyond borders.
Documentary theatre, live representation and the epic dimension of travel and its impossibility meet in this directed by Juan Ayala in Madrid and Egly Larreynaga in Bristol which gathers actors from Iraq, Byelorussia, Nicaragua, Palestine, El Salvador and Lebanon.
“El Muro” will be on at the Teatro de La Abadía in Madrid from 10th to 12th February and “The Wall” at the Tobacco Factory Theatres in Bristol from 22nd to 24th February, 2023.
