The Rhine River holds a treasure. When its precious gold is stolen, it unleashes a chain of destructive events turning gods and mortals against one another for generations. Enjoy this spectacular journey into the mythological world surrounding Erda, Mother Earth herself, with Das Rheingold. Known for being part of the infamous four-opera cycle by Wagner, The Ring of the Nibelung, this new and daring representation by director Barrie Josky starring Christopher Maltman (Wotan) and Christopher Purves’ (Alberich).
Kosky has joined efforts with musical director Antonio Pappano to bring to life the piece that marks the start of a new cycle of The Ring of the Nibelung at the Royal Opera House. The pieces that conform this cycle are some of the greatest musical compositions ever written for opera. This version includes Rufus Didwiszus’ set design along with Victoria Behr’s costume designs.
Thanks to its agreement with Versión Digital (exclusive distributor for Spain of the Royal Opera House’s cinema screenings from its London stage) and Cines La Vaguada in Madrid; Cinemes Girona in Barcelona; Cines LYS in Valencia; Multicines 7 in Bilbao; and cines Ocimax in Palma de Mallorca, the British Council is organising a draw of two free double tickets per theatre to see this magnificent production live from the Royal Opera House stage.
