Hay Festival de Segovia is back another year with the best of national and international creative talent, from 14 to 17 September. Thanks to its collaboration with the British Council, this year it will host a varied programme which includes the presence of British authors that are at the centre of the conversation.

One of them will be Kim Sherwood, writer and professor at the University of Edinburgh. Her first novel, Testament” (2018), led her to be shortlisted for The Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award in 2019 and win the Bath Novel Award and the Harper’s Bazaar Big Book Award. Recently, the Ian Fleming Estate commissioned her to write the new James Bond trilogy, making her the first woman to write a novel about agent 007. On 15 September at 12h00, she will join Cristina Ward, Head of Arts at British Council Spain for a talk to discuss how her work confronts stereotypes and challenges gender norms, as well as explore the role of women writers throughout history.

That afternoon at 17h00, naturalist and BBC broadcaster David Lindo will take part in a talk hosted by Isabel del Alcázar, whose work is focused on sustainability. Lindo is considered to be one of the world's biggest experts in birdwatching tourism and urban birds. During this talk, Lindo will join French ecologist Vincent Doumeizel and Belgian paleoclimatologist Valerie Trouet in a conversation about the commitment to preserve our planet and its ecosystem. Together they will debate about the future of our societies and explore the importance of the knowledge that nature has to offer.

On 16 September the British Council School Ensemble will offer a unique show. The BCSE is an orchestra formed by British Council School students, professors from the Music21 programme and alumni who get together to enjoy musical expression. They play a varied repertoire which ranges from baroque and classic pieces to popular and current tunes. On this occasion, they will perform at the Teatro Juan Bravo at 12h00 with a repertoire that will take the audience on a journey through European music, from the Baroque period to our time.

The festival will also host Robert Hardman, author, analyst and filmmaker dedicated to British royalty. Hardman has covered all information on the British monarchy for over three decades, leading him to become the Royal Family's main biographer. On 16 September at 13h30, he will join host Caroline Michel, President of the Hay Festivals, and the British Ambassador in Spain, Hugh Elliott, to talk about his professional career and his experience writing about the monarchs.

Other British participants during this edition of Hay Festival Segovia include: Jesse Norman, Minister of State for Decarbonisation and Technology; Pilita Clark, Financial Times columnist and Associate Editor; Frederick Studemann, Financial Times Literary Editor; Martin Ivens, Editor of the Times Literary Supplement; María Antonia Elliott, coach and yoga instructor; Julie Finch, Hay Festival's CEO; and British tenor Mark Le Brocq.
