To celebrate Shakespeare the British Council and the Caixa are pleased to present
Maxine Peake as Hamlet in the production of a film version of Sarah Frankcom’s critically acclaimed stage production. Shot creatively with eight cameras ‘in the round’ Hamlet captures the spirit of the play to create a visceral and cinematic experience.
Hamlet’s father is dead and Denmark has crowned a new king. Consumed by grief Hamlet struggles to exact revenge with devastating consequences. The ultimate play about loyalty, love, betrayal, murder and madness. Every Hamlet is defined by the actor. In this stripped back, fresh and fast-paced version, Maxine Peake creates a compelling Hamlet for our time in a repeated screening of the play performed in 2014 at the Royal Exchange.
The British Council has supported the film version of Sarah Frankcom’s critically acclaimed production of Hamlet, which enjoyed a sell-out run at the Manchester Royal Exchange in the UK in 2014.
