We're kicking off a new season of BAFTA Shorts, our touring film programme in collaboration with the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). The programme includes a selection of live action and animation short film nominees, and the winners in each category, from the 2023 BAFTA awards. They represent storytelling that reveals the breadth and diversity of UK society, together with world class artistic and technical flair, and feature some of the UK’s finest acting talents.
This year's offer includes titles such as Crab Day, by director Ross Stringer, which won the BAFTA for Best Short Animation in 2024. It also includes Jellyfish and Lobster, directed by Yasmin Afifi, which tells the story of two elderly care home residents who serendipitously form an unlikely relationship when they make an enchanted discovery. Jellyfish and Lobster received the BAFTA for Best Short Live Action this year.
Every last weekend before the end of the year's trimester, Laboral Cinemateca offers a special programme of short films with which it conmemorates El Día + Corto del Año (The Shortest Day of the Year), celebrated anually on 21 December, as it coincides with the winter solstice. On 21 December at 18:00 h you're invited to join the second day of celebrations with a special screening of the BAFTA Shorts 2024. Access will be free until full capacity.
