 On September 20th , the British Council is launching its new programme NEW UK DRAMA to boost the promotion  of contemporary  British dramaturgy with one of the heavyweights of the London stage, the prestigious playwright and director Simon Stephens.

On the occasion of the premiere in Spain of the fabulous production of The curious incident of the dog at midnight Stephens will speak to an audience on Thursday September 20 at 5:00 pm at the Marquina Theater in collaboration of the SGAE Foundation and Association of Theatre Authors.

Simon Stephens is an international reference in dramaturgy worldwide. He is one of the most awarded playwrights ofcontemporary international theatre scene. He is currently an associate artist at Lyric Hammersmith and Royal Court in London. He premiered his first works at the Royal Court (Bluebird, Herons, Country Music and Motortown).

In 2005 he received the Olivier Award for Best New Play for On the shore of the wide world. He then wrote Sea Wall, Pornography, Punk Rock, I am the wind and Three Kingdoms, projects which were premiered in London, Tallinn and Munich. In 2012 he premiered the theatrical version of Mark Haddon's novel The Curious Incident of the Dog at Midnight, one of his greatest successes as a playwright with numerous awards and his representation in more than 10 countries. He has written the theatrical versions of Ibsen's House of Dolls and Chekhov's Cherry Garden for the Young Vic. Among his most recent works in theater are Carmen Disruption, Birdland, Song from far way (directed by Ivo van Hove), Nuclear War and Fatherland. He has also written scripts for radio and television on the BBC.
