Queens of Syria is a unique, heartwarming film about a remarkable group of Syrian refugee women working towards staging their own version of one of the oldest plays ever written, Euripedes' The Trojan Women.
They were 50 women, all refugees from Syria. Many had lost a husband, a son, a brother, and each had lost their home. Like Hecuba, queen of Troy, each of them had suffered unthinkable loss in their own way. The women worked to incorporate their stories into the play, as a way of communicating to the world what had happened to them.
The film won the Best Director From The Arab World award at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival in October 2014 and has since screened at the Glasgow Film Festival, Dublin Film Festival and more.
