The first edition of the Re / Barcelona Sustainable Fashion Global Event will be held on 29th and 30th November and will be the first international meeting point on sustainable and ethical fashion in southern Europe. The British Council is participating by inviting a leading figure in sustainable fashion in the United Kingdom: Marylin Martinez (Ellen MacArthur Foundation), Tamsin Lejeune (Common Objective) and Sara Arnold (Higher Studio and Extinction Rebellion) to the summit on the 29th November.
Over two days, Re / Barcelona will provide a platform and discussion forum on best practices and the most innovative initiatives in the creation, production, sale and use of sustainable fashion.
The British participants invited to the professional summit, Sustainable Fashion and Beyond, will contribute to the dissemination of new initiatives in sustainable and ethical fashion:
Marilyn Martinez is a senior research analyst for the Make Fashion Circular Initiative at Ellen MacArthur Foundation. Its objective is to catalyse the action of the industry after the publication of the report A new textile economy: redesigning the future of fashion. Before joining the foundation, Marilyn worked in strategic consulting, specializing in sustainability. Throughout its projects, Marilyn has collaborated with companies, public organizations and international organizations identifying new business opportunities.
Tamsin Lejeune is one of the pioneers of the sustainable fashion movement. She established the Ethical Fashion Forum in 2006, an NGO which organised online commercial events for sustainable fashion designers. A decade later the Forum became Commmon Objective, working with thousands of fashion professionals and businesses over the years, growing a global network spanning 141 countries, and pioneering solutions that overcome the challenges they face. Tamsin is a force to be reckoned with, and an inspiration to many.
Sara Arnolds combines managing Higher Studio which she set up as a high-end fashion rental and subscription organisation and coordinating Extinction Rebellion, a environmental movement which demands government action to deal with the climate and ecological emergency. Sara rapresents the radical desire to change things to achieve a better world.
Organized by Sustainable Fashion Barcelona and Seed & Click, and supported by the Barcelona City Council, Re / Barcelona Sustainable Fashion Global Event aims to generate a positive impact on the fashion industry and society by creating a permanent think tank on ethical and sustainable fashion .
