Library Week at the British Council
From Friday 23 to Thursday 29 October, for the first time in Spain, British Council Somosaguas Teaching Centre has organized a Library Week. It will be a cultural week in which children, teens and adults can participate in numerous free sessions to practise English while doing activities related to British art and culture.
Each session has been designed for a specific age group, from arts and crafts or storytelling aimed at children from 4 years old, to sessions about film, literature or poetry for adults. In addition, we are fortunate to have the presence of Will Keen, the British actor who plays Samuel Refugees in the series Refugiados. In collaboration with the Lorca foundation, he will be presenting Lorca’s A Poet in New York, as did the New York Public Library in 2013.
Young people will also have activities to choose from, with interesting sessions such as Murder in the Library, - will they be able to piece together the clues to solve the puzzle? They will also have the chance to broaden their horizons and travel to remote places in Stories from Around the World in which they’ll hear some amazing stories from around the world that illustrate how stories highlight connections between different cultures.
Finally, you’ll have the chance to win one of 3 fantastic Kindle e-Readers. All you have to do is, after attending one of the library week events, guess the total number of books in the library, note down you guess on one of the special cards and hand it in to the librarian. The three closest guesses will receive an e-Reader.
In short, there will be a full week of events in which the protagonists will be the participants. It’s a great opportunity for the whole family to have fun with English and discover hidden aspects of British culture and the arts, so go ahead, you can sign up through the link belwo and see all the information concerning Library Week. Remember that it’s all completely free!
