In honour of the Vasque theatre company Tanttaka Teatroa's 40th anniversary, the Teatro de la Abadía in Madrid has the pleasure of presenting the adaptation of The Colour of Milk, a novel by British author Nell Leyshon, directed by Spanish playwright and filmmaker Fernando Bernués.
Nell Leyshon is a renowned British novelist and playwright. In 2010, she premiered her play Bedlam which changed 400 years of history as she became the first woman ever to write a play for the Shakespeare's Globe. Apart from winning several awards in the UK such as the Evening Standard Theatre Award for most promising playwright and being nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award with Comfort me with Apples, her novel The Colour of Milk received the 2014 Spanish Federation of Publishers' Guilds award for Best Book of the Year.
From 25 April to 12 May, travel to 1830 with the story of Mary, a young farmer who lives with her family and works incessantly despite having a problem in her leg. On day, she is forced to leave her family to begin working as a maid for the Vicar's wife. When she gets the chance to learn how to read and write, Mary discovers that light can be even more blinding and understands th eimportance of telling her own story.
Thanks to the support of British Council Spain, Nell Leyshon will be in Madrid to participate in a Q&A session with the public after the show on Friday, 26 April.
