The British Council is delighted to present the third edition of Future Screens Film Lab a two-day training programme aimed at early career film professionals who are looking to increase their knowledge of the film business. This includes participants who are working on the production, direction, distribution or exhibition of film. This exciting project is organised by British Council Spain, the BFI (British Film Institute), and the Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas de España, with the support of the British Embassy in Spain.
Designed and developed by Dr. Angus Finney in collaboration with the BFI, the UK's leading organisation for film and moving image, the purpose of Future Screens Film lab: The Business of Film is to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the key aspects of the film business while also describing how AI is currently intersecting with key elements of the entertainment value chain. The Lab will focus on the following areas of activity:
- An introduction to the Film and Entertainment Value Chain.
- Project Development: strategies, tasks and concepts.
- Film and TV financing: analysis of the international market and the role of business-to-business activity undertaken by international sales agents and producer representatives.
- Distribution strategies: a full examination of the international film festival and market circuit including Cannes, Berlin and AFM.
- Company and entrepreneurship models.
Author of The International Film Business: A Market Guide Beyond Hollywood, Dr. Angus Finney is an experienced film, TV and streaming business specialist, author, trainer and executive producer. He managed Europe’s only Film Production Finance Market for 10 years for Film London and is the former managing director of Renaissance Films where he worked across development, packaging, financing, sales and marketing. He has trained and taught around the world, including in New Zealand, China, Ireland, Canada, Germany, Denmark, France, Poland, Middle East and the UK. He is currently a visiting professor to the Beijing Film Academy and a Course Director at the National Film & Television School (UK) and the BFI.

Deadline to apply:
10th November 23:59 CEST. If your application is successful, the British Council will cover the cost of your training (participants are responsible for all other costs). We'll inform you on 18/19 November if you've been selected and, at that point, will provide you with further details about the programme contents and wraparound activities.
The training will be in English and is free of charge.
