Hay Festivals and the British Council launched a global partnership at the Hay-on-Wye Festival in May 2010. We now work together on an annual basis to bring UK authors and thinkers to a global audience.

Every year in Segovia many authors come to share their ideas and thoughts on their own books and on literature. Every year the British Council focuses on a different theme within the festival so keep an eye on this website to find out more. In 2013, the British Council focused on Crime Fiction whereas in 2012 we welcomed authors of historical novels.

This annual event provides a really great place for writers, according to Susie Nicklin, former Director of Literature at the British Council, "The Hay Festival is a wonderful space for writers, thinkers and academics from around the world to meet and exchange ideas with a passionate audience and to build lasting relationships. As the UK’s cultural relations organisation we are thrilled to work with the Hay team to support this invaluable cultural exchange and to help bring it to a global audience."
