British Council

We’ve been working with schools in Madrid since 1998, bringing quality English teaching to students of all ages. This year, over 1000 students are attending English classes with us in their school.

This partnership allows children and teenagers aged 12-17 to extend their academic achievement beyond their school studies and to attend British Council English courses in their own school. Apart from the flexibility of this system, our schools partnership programme stands out for its high quality.

Students in partner schools develop all their communicative skills in English by following an educational programme based on innovative teaching methodologies. The objectives we set at each age support them to reach their full potential.

Parents play an important role in the courses delivered in partner schools. Quarterly assessment systems as well as regular face to face counselling sessions with teachers are some of the advantages families can benefit from. Our students also progress outside the classes, with the help of materials available on our apps, websites and online resources.

We at the British Council are not just committed to high quality standards in English teaching but also to  child protection We care about our students’ welfare and we’ve developed a corporate policy which all our staff members follow. We are also part of Keeping Children Safe, an international network of organizations committed to protecting children.

Early Years (4-5 years)

Our extracurricular English courses for younger students are based on the British Curriculum for this age group, the Foundation Stage. It aims to foster children's personal, social, emotional and physical development with an emphasis on fun and natural learning.

Our sessions use play as an important way to allow children to spark their interest in English while enjoying themselves with songs, rhymes, stories, arts & crafts activities and drama.

At this age, our lessons also help our students to develop their autonomy so they are well prepared to continue with their learning in our Primary Courses.

Primary (6-10 years)

In our courses for Primary students, our teaching methodologies aim to boost children’s communicative skills and increase their confidence to keep them engaged in studying English.

Lessons are based on areas that children of this age love. They have fun interacting with their teacher and classmates, extend their language skills by learning songs and taking part in games and writing challenges.

Secondary (11-17 years)

Our courses for Secondary students aim to consolidate their knowledge of grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary, while developing their communicative skills, working and interacting in groups.

The lessons are based on methodologies such as myVoice, lively debates about issues of interest for this age group, including themes such as new technologies and personal image.  Through these sessions, teenagers grow confident in speaking in public and boost their skills of critical thinking.

When they reach a B2 English level, our classes also teach them how to successfully deal with the different parts of international exams such as Cambridge, IELTS or Aptis, which can help them to gain a certificate to show their high level of English.
